About
mission
Future cities may continue to nurture creativity and civilised human interaction or be overwhelmed by inequity, unplanned growth and alienation of public space. Investigating the urban environment and building critical literacy about planning and design of public space are urgent and legitimate goals for education. Living City aims to increase the agency and involvement of young people in decisions about public space and urban design.
about: living city
Living City values young people as agents for change in our cities. It introduces them to the idea of contested sites, validates the ideas they have about public space design and empowers them as future citizens with a stake in decision-making. As an educational model, it nurtures their creative thinking about the design of democratic and sustainable public spaces. Living City is a catalyst for fresh thinking about design pedagogy and a model for learning through industry and community partnerships.
about: site::unseen
site::unseen is the 10th in a series of Living City events connecting young Queenslanders to their urban heritage and future. Fortitude Valley is a vibrant and diverse precinct that accommodates many possibilities for imaginative urban development. Kemp Place Park is a marginalised space within this area. Site::unseen, through the support of the Q150 program, attempts to create innovative design solutions in the park that recognise its past uses and its context in a precinct of growth and change.
